This article explains how to manage the Xfinity WiFi hotspot on your home Xfinity Gateway and where it can be used.
Your gateway broadcasts an extra WiFi network called “xfinitywifi.” This network creates a hotspot right in your home.
This hotspot is separate from your private home WiFi network. It lets guests sign in and connect without using your secure WiFi password. Your Home Hotspot is included with your service at no extra cost.
To learn how to turn your Xfinity WiFi Home Hotspot on or off, follow the steps below.
Notes:
- Xfinity WiFi hotspots are included at no extra cost if you rent an Xfinity Gateway.
- Find your gateway’s make and model by checking the UPC seal on the bottom or back of your device.
- It’s recommended to keep the Xfinity WiFi Home Hotspot feature turned on.
- It helps more people enjoy the benefits of Xfinity WiFi.
Turn your Xfinity WiFi Home Hotspot on or off in the Xfinity app
- Go to the Xfinity app.
- Sign in to your account using the Primary, Manager, or Member’s Xfinity ID and password.
- Tap WiFi.
- Tap View WiFi equipment.
- Tap Advanced settings.
- Tap Xfinity WiFi hotspot network.
- Move the toggle to the right to turn on your public hotspot. Move it to the left to turn it off.

Turn your Xfinity WiFi Home Hotspot on or off in your account
- Go to customer.xfinity.com/#/settings/security/hotspot.
- Sign in to your account using the Primary, Manager, or Member’s Xfinity ID and password.
- Click Turn Off to disable your public hotspot or Turn On to enable it.
- Note: This is turned on by default.
- Confirm your choice.
- You’ll see a message confirming your change.
- Message: "Your hotspot has been disabled. Please allow 24 hours for this change to take effect in My Account and your Wireless Gateway."
Note: If you see information about Xfinity WiFi but don’t see an option to Turn On or Turn Off, your device is not eligible for this feature and does not broadcast a public hotspot signal.
