Set parental controls for content on network websites and apps

Learn how to set up Parental Controls to manage the content that your household watches on network websites and apps, like NBC, The Disney Channel, WatchESPN and Fox Now.

Network websites and apps give you the freedom to watch your favorite shows, movies, news, sports and more on your own terms – when you want, where you want, and on the most convenient device available – for free with your Xfinity TV service.

Turn on parental controls

Let's get started with enabling Parental Controls for content on network websites and apps.

Note: Parental Controls for network websites and apps are set at the household level and can only be managed by the Primary user. Additionally, the content limitations selected will not affect your TV box, Stream Mobile App or Stream Online Portal.

  1. Manage your Parental Controls.
  2. In the Network Sites and Apps section, click Manage Settings.
    The Network Sites and Apps screen shows its Manage Settings button on the far right.
  3. In the Parental Controls for Network Sites and Apps section, click Turn On.
    Turn on Parental Controls.
  4. You’ll receive a confirmation message.
    A confirmation message will appear.

OK! Now that you've enabled Parental Controls, you can set up additional controls to limit what your household watches on network websites and apps.

If you ever need to disable Parental Controls, simply select Turn Off in the Parental Controls menu.

Lock movies by rating

Use the Movie Ratings control to block your household from watching movies that have a specific rating.

  1. From the Network Sites and Apps option in the Parental Controls window, click Manage Settings.
    Click Manage Settings.
  2. Navigate to Movies within TV Shows and Movie Restrictions.
    Within TV Shows and Movie Restrictions, navigate to Movies.
  3. Click the highest movie rating your household is allowed to watch and a lock icon will appear next to the locked ratings.
    A lock icon will appear when you've successfully locked the highest allowable ratings.
  4. When you're finished, click the Save button.
    Save button.

Excellent! Your household won't be able to watch any movie on network websites and apps that has a rating at or higher than you've locked.

Lock TV shows by rating

Use the TV Ratings control to block your household from watching TV programs that have a specific TV rating.

  1. From the Network Sites and Apps option in the Parental Controls window, click Manage Settings.
  2. Navigate to TV within TV Shows and Movie Restrictions.

  3. On the TV Rating Slider, tap the highest TV rating your household is allowed to watch and a lock icon appears next to the locked ratings.

  4. When you're finished, click the Save button.

Great! Your household won't be able to watch any TV show on network websites and apps that has a rating at or higher than you've locked.

Lock channels

Use the Channel controls to prevent your household from watching a particular channel.

  1. From the Network Sites and Apps option in the Parental Controls window, click Manage Settings.
    Open Parental Controls to Manage Settings.
  2. Click Edit next to the Lock specific channels option.
    The Lock specific channels screen shows the Edit button on the far right.
  3. In the Lock channels window:
    • Tap each network that you want to lock.

    • Tap Unlock All to unlock all channels
      Unlock all option is at left.
  4. When you're finished, click the Save button.
    Save button.

Note: HBO must be unlocked in order for the HBO Max app to be accessible on X1 and Flex. See HBO Max overview for more information.

That's it! Your household will only be able to watch unlocked channels on network websites and apps.
