Restart your X1 TV Box

When your Xfinity X1 TV Box isn’t working as expected, the quickest fix is often a restart or a system refresh. The easiest way is to just say “Restart TV Box” into your Xfinity Voice Remote.

If you have X1 AnyRoom DVR, see restarting your X1 TV Box with X1 AnyRoom DVR service.

This guide covers:

Note: Do not unplug or turn off any TV Boxes during a system refresh or restart. Your TV and recordings will be unavailable until the process is complete.

What happens when you restart your TV Box?

Good news — restarting your Xfinity X1 TV Box won’t erase your settings or guide information. Here’s what to expect:

  • No impact on your guide
  • No impact on your settings (including Locks PIN and Purchase PIN)
  • Recordings
    • If you restart an X1 DVR while recording, the recording will pause and resume after the restart.
    • Avoid restarting during active recordings.
  • Playback
    • Playback stops on any TV Boxes streaming from an X1 DVR during the restart.
    • Playback resumes when the restart is complete.
  • Already-recorded programs and scheduled recordings are safe — you won’t lose them.

Scheduled restarts

  • If you are watching live TV or Xfinity On Demand during the scheduled restart, you'll see a message giving you the option to delay it until the next night.
