Learn how to unlock your Xfinity Mobile phone so it can be used with another service provider. Most of the time, your phone unlocks automatically within 48 hours of being paid off.
Here are other unlock rules:
- Your phone must be activated for at least 60 days.
- The phone must be paid in full.
- Your Xfinity Mobile account cannot have a past-due balance.
- Your phone cannot be reported lost, stolen, or involved in fraudulent activity.
If you feel you meet these rules but your phone is still locked, please chat with Xfinity Assistant.
Devices are not eligible to use a SIM from another provider — such as a local data plan with international travel — until all required device unlock eligibility rules are met.
Only account holders, Primary users, or Managers on an Xfinity Mobile account can request to have phones unlocked.

Apple phones
Once you meet all rules to unlock your phone, go to Apple support for steps to finish unlocking your iPhone for the following:
- If you need to activate an eSIM from a provider other than your current one.
- If you have a SIM card from a provider other than your current one.
- If you don't have another SIM card to use.
If you feel you meet these rules but your phone is still locked, please chat with Xfinity Assistant.
Apple phones do not need an unlock code. They unlock through updates made when connected to WiFi or cellular data.
Newer Android phones (2022 or later)
Once you meet all rules to unlock your phone, restart it. Most the time, no more steps are needed for the process.
Once your phone restarts, you should see an alert that says either:
- "Carrier lock removed. The device can now be used on any network." or
- "Your phone has been unlocked. You can now use it on any compatible network or service provider."
To check your unlock status:
- Restart your phone.
- Put in a SIM card from another provider.
- Go to the Home screen. Look for the "Phone Locked" message.
- Make sure your phone is connected to cellular data or WiFi.
- When connected, the unlock message is in the notification panel.
Some phones may ask for an unlock code. You can contact Xfinity Mobile. We can send an unlock code email to the email address linked to your Xfinity Mobile account. The email contains the code and steps to take. Enter the code into your phone to unlock it.
Older Android phones
Once you meet all rules to unlock your phone, an email with an unlock code is sent. This goes to the address linked to your Xfinity Mobile account.
Once you get the unlock code:
- Put a new SIM card into the phone.
- The phone asks for a network unlock code.
- Tap the field above the line. Put in the unlock code.
- Tap Unlock.
For some Android phones, the unlock code may not work on its own. If you put in the unlock code and are asked for an unfreeze code, or you enter the wrong unlock code too many times, you will need to enter an unfreeze code too. Unfreeze codes are not sent in emails. Contact an Xfinity Mobile agent if you need an unfreeze code.
Motorola phones
For Motorola phones, if you enter the wrong code too many times, you may see a message on your phone that says, “Too many attempts, please try again later.” This means the phone:
- Is at its maximum number of failed unlock attempts.
- Is now in a cool-down timeout for three minutes.
After three minutes, you can ask to complete the unlock process with the right code. If you restart your phone during the timeout, the window starts again when powered back up.
If you are in the military
If you are an active member of the armed forces, you may be eligible to unlock your phone before it’s fully paid off.
All other unlock rules still apply.
To unlock your phone before it’s paid off, you must get:
- Orders to deploy outside the U.S. for more than 90 days or
- A permanent change of duty station within the U.S.
Please bring your deployment paperwork into a local Xfinity Retail Store or call 1-888-936-4968 to safely give your deployment paperwork electronically. Find an Xfinity Retail Store near you.
