If you are bringing your phone to Xfinity Mobile, you might be asked to unlock it from your previous service provider. If you need to know what that means and how to do it, you are at the right place.
What does unlocking mean?
Many phones are locked to the service provider they were first bought from. You can't bring your phone to a new service provider until it's unlocked. There are a few reasons a phone might be locked include:
- It's still financed with your service provider.
- In other words, you owe device payments each month.
- Service providers often only unlock a phone once it's fully paid off.
- It's a prepaid phone.
- These kinds of phones are sometimes treated differently. You may have to talk to your current service provider about it.
- Service provider policy.
- Automatically unlock the phone after a period of time.
- Only unlock the phone if you ask them to.
