Xfinity Video Doorbell is overheated

The optimum operating temperature for the Xfinity Video Doorbell is -4 F to 104 F. Extreme temperatures can impact or cause interruptions to your video doorbell features.

When the Xfinity Video Doorbell’s internal temperature reaches 158 F, some functions may be disabled such as:
  • Live video.
  • 24/7 Video Recording.
  • Two-way audio.
  • Night vision.
  • The LED light indicator.

It may also prevent your hardwired chime from ringing.

If the device’s temperature reaches 172 F, it may also go offline. Where possible, the Xfinity app will let you know when a feature may be impacted by this issue.

Troubleshoot overheating

The primary way to avoid this issue is to install the Xfinity Video Doorbell in:
  • An ideal location to keep it within the optimum operating temperature (-4 F to 104 F).
  • Beneath an overhang or in an area that gets shade for at least a few hours a day.
    • Direct sunlight may cause your device’s internal temperature to increase beyond the ambient temperature.
  • A well-ventilated space that allows air to flow around it.
    • Don't enclose your device with a case or a cover.

If the video doorbell is overheating, functionality will be restored once it has cooled down. This typically will occur in one hour, but the timeframe may vary depending on the specific environment. Customers who have push notifications enabled will receive notifications from the Xfinity app when their functionality is restored.

Note: If your device is overheating and you're experiencing impacts to your features, troubleshooting steps for other root causes won't resolve the issue.
