Connect to WiFi with an iPhone or iPod Touch

To make sure your iPhone or iPod Touch is connected to your private home WiFi network at home or to Xfinity WiFi when you’re traveling, just follow the steps below.

Configure Your Device to Use Your Private Home WiFi Network at Home and Xfinity WiFi on the Go

If you have downloaded the Xfinity WiFi app and installed the Xfinity WiFi profile by signing in, your iPhone/iPod will automatically connect to your private home WiFi network at home and Xfinity WiFi when visiting a friend or traveling.

  • Note: When you download the Xfinity WiFi app and install Xfinity WiFi profile for the first time, you may be asked to grant permission to use your location, send you notifications and share usage information.

If you have manually connected to Xfinity WiFi and your private home WiFi network before, your device may connect automatically depending on the iPhone/iPod version of your device.

If your iPhone is on iOS 6 or above (or if it’s an iPhone 5), it will automatically connect to your private WiFi at home and Xfinity WiFi when you’re visiting a friend or traveling.

If your device is an iPhone 4S (or older) or an iPod, it will connect to the most recently connected network, if that network is available.

If your device doesn’t connect to your private home WiFi network by default, follow these steps:

  1. Tap Settings.

An gear icon for Android's Settings menu is displayed.

  2. Tap WiFi to see the list of available networks (SSIDs).

The Settings menu is displayed, with Wi-Fi second to top.

  3. To connect to your private home WiFi network, tap the network name of your home WiFi network in the menu (usually this will be the network with the strongest signal).

A list of wifi networks is displayed, with a home network circled at the bottom.

  4. Wait a few seconds while your device connects.
    • If you have never connected to your private home WiFi network on this Xfinity Wireless Gateway before, you’ll need to enter the Network Key printed on the label on the bottom of the Wireless Gateway and tap Join.
    • If you have changed the network key (also known as password) from the original setting, enter that key instead. Find out more about connecting to your Wireless Gateway.

A wifi screen is displayed prompting the user to input a password.

  5. Wait a few seconds while your device connects, and you're done!

Note: These steps may need to be repeated if you want your iPhone/iPod to connect to your private WiFi when you’re at home.

  5. Find xfinitywifi from the list of available networks and tap it.
