X1 Cloud DVR FAQs

X1 Cloud DVR functions like a regular DVR, but includes features like the ability to stream recordings to mobile devices and computers with the Xfinity Stream app or from the Xfinity Stream portal (xfinity.com/stream). In addition, completed recordings can be downloaded to mobile devices for "offline" viewing.

FAQs

What is X1 Cloud DVR?
The X1 Cloud DVR allows you to access your DVR recordings from mobile devices and computers while connected to any WiFi or mobile network via the Xfinity Stream app or portal. You can also download completed recordings to a mobile device to watch offline when WiFi or mobile networks are not available.

You can also use the Xfinity Stream portal and app to watch thousands of Xfinity On Demand titles and stream any channel in your subscription when you're home. Plus, access tons of TV shows and movies when you're on the go.

You have 150 hours of X1 Cloud DVR storage for each X1 DVR TV Box on your account. If you exceed your limit, your most recent recordings will replace older recordings unless the older recordings are marked as Save for 1 Year.

  • Because your X1 DVR TV Box has approximately 150 hours of HD programming storage, not all recordings available on your TV Box will be accessible from your X1 Cloud DVR.
  • If you can log in to the Xfinity Stream app or Xfinity Stream portal but the Recordings, Downloads or Scheduled tabs are grayed out, please contact us to have X1 added to your account.

Note: If you have 20 hours of DVR storage, you can record up to two programs at one time.

Who is eligible for X1 Cloud DVR?
All X1 customers with DVR service in launched areas are eligible.

Is X1 Cloud DVR available to existing X1 customers with DVR service?
Yes, X1 Cloud DVR is available to all customers with X1 DVR service and is automatically included in your service for no extra charge. Once you’ve acknowledged the terms of service, you can begin using the functionality.

How can I access content using X1 Cloud DVR?

How many programs can I record simultaneously?
You can record up to six programs at one time. In some areas, Xfinity TV services provide a maximum of two simultaneous recordings without a DVR account enhancement.

Are certain channels and packages only available to record using X1 Cloud DVR?
Yes. Some programs can only be recorded on your X1 Cloud DVR rather than on your X1 DVR hard drive. Cloud DVR recordings are accessible to view on your X1 DVR TV Box.

If you have Xfinity X1 with DVR service, 150 hours of X1 Cloud DVR are included at no extra charge for each X1 DVR TV Box on your account. If you exceed your limit for cloud DVR recordings, your most recent recordings will replace older recordings if your save setting is set to Save Until Space Is Needed. You will be unable to record some programming if you have used all of your cloud DVR storage.

What save options do I have for recordings?

  • Save Until Space Is Needed: Most recent recordings will replace older recordings.
  • Save for 1 Year: All cloud DVR recordings will delete after one year. Future recordings will not record unless you manually delete some older recordings.

What devices are supported?
The Xfinity Stream portal and app are available to watch recordings. Learn more about supported devices for the Xfinity Stream app and portal by reviewing minimum system requirements for the Xfinity Stream app and Xfinity Stream portal.

Can I purchase additional cloud DVR storage hours?
Yes, you can purchase additional Cloud DVR storage hours with or without DVR equipment in the home by contacting us. In some areas you can upgrade your DVR service from your X1 TV Box by going to Main Menu > Saved > Recordings > Upgrade DVR Plan (located below the list of recorded programs). See X1 DVR Services Overview for more information.

Why aren't all customers able to access X1 Cloud DVR recordings on the Xfinity Stream app?
Only X1 customers with Cloud DVR can access recordings.

If you have X1 DVR service and are upgrading to X1 Cloud DVR:

Will I lose the recordings currently saved on my X1 DVR?
Existing recordings will remain available on your TV Box, but will not be available for playback or download on mobile devices or computers.

Will I lose scheduled recordings?
Following your upgrade, the system will automatically begin recording scheduled shows in the cloud.

Does X1 Cloud DVR count against the Xfinity Internet data usage threshold?
Downloading and/or streaming DVR recordings, live TV or Xfinity On Demand content will not count against your Internet data usage threshold if you are connected to your in-home Xfinity network. However, if you choose to stream or download DVR recordings outside of the home, this may count against your data usage threshold.

If you have X1 Cloud DVR:

Can I take my cloud recordings with me if I move or transfer service?
The recordings that are physically stored on your X1 DVR TV Box will be transferred during your move; however, recordings from your old account stored on the Xfinity Stream app and portal will no longer be accessible after you move.

In the event of a DVR box swap, will I still have access to my recordings?
Recordings made after June 7, 2016, or after the date you began using X1 Cloud DVR (whichever is later) will be accessible from your new TV Box as well as from mobile devices and computers.
