Pause, rewind, or fast-forward programming with the X1 guide

X1 now features a simplified interface and quicker navigation to continue watching live TV, episodes or playlist content. You can still fast forward, rewind and jump using the buttons on your remote.

Notes:

  • Pausing, rewinding, and fast-forwarding live TV is available on all X1 TV Boxes except for RNG150 devices.
  • The following functionality may not be available for Xfinity free live streaming channels:
    • Fast-forward
    • Rewind
    • Recording features
  • When paused, Xfinity free live streaming channels may resume to the current moment of programming, rather than resuming from the pause point.
  • If playback is paused or rewinding and the end of the buffer is reached, or if playback is fast-forwarding and the start of the buffer is reached, playback returns to normal play speed.

Navigate content on X1

As part of a recent update to the X1 video playback controls, we've added three new buttons:

  • Jump Back
  • Live
  • Next

These buttons enable you to quickly navigate within the program you're viewing and between programs in a playlist. The Jump Back button sends you back to the beginning of a program, while the Live button joins you in progress to the program or recording you're watching.

Next lets you quickly access the next item in a playlist – whether it's a music video in your curated playlist or the next episode of the TV show you're currently binging.

Activate lightning mode

With the lightning mode feature, you can get to where you left off in no time by pressing the fast-forward or rewind button on your remote five times. This speed allows you to traverse content in under 12 seconds – regardless of the program's length.

Fast-forward through ads

Many programs don’t allow fast-forwarding through ads. But if you try by pressing the fast-forward button, you might see a message that says, “Fast Forward isn’t available. Your video will resume in…” and then a countdown timer for how long the ad has left.
