FAQs

How do I use voice control?

  1. Press and hold the Voice (Microphone) button.
  2. Say your command into the microphone at the top of your remote. Keep the remote 1 to 8 inches from your mouth.
  3. Let go of the button when you’re finished.

If you have an XRA Large Button Voice Remote, press and release the Microphone button before saying your command.

Note: The XRA Large Button Voice Remote is not compatible with Xumo Stream Boxes at this time.

When is the microphone on?
The microphone is only on when you press and hold the Voice (Microphone) button on your remote. A flashing light on the remote and a microphone icon on the TV connected to your Xfinity X1 TV Box show that the microphone is on and listening for your commands. The remote makes a brief sound when you press the button and again when you release it.

What voice commands can I use?
The Voice Remote uses natural language speech recognition, so you can search by a keyword or phrase. Use voice control to change channels, find shows, get recommendations, and more. Here are some examples of voice commands:

  • "Watch NBC."
  • "Find kids movies."
  • "Launch Sports app.
  • "Show me what's on tonight at seven."
  • "Turn on Closed Captioning."
  • "Show me settings."

What happens to my voice commands after I speak into the remote?
Voice commands are sent to Xfinity and its contracted service provider for processing. They are used for quality checks, troubleshooting, and customer support. They also help improve our products, services, and voice recognition technology.

Why doesn't my Voice Remote recognize my voice commands?
If your commands aren’t recognized, make sure you speak clearly at a natural volume. Hold the remote 1 to 8 inches away and keep the Voice (Microphone) button pressed until you finish. If you still have trouble, check for background noise that might be interfering with your commands.

Low battery power can also affect voice commands. To check your battery level, go to About in the X1 Settings, Xumo Stream Box Settings, or Flex Settings menu. If your remote has low battery power, you’ll see this message: “Voice Commands cannot be processed due to critically low remote battery.”

Why won't the Voice Remote work with my other Xfinity TV Boxes?
Once your Voice Remote is paired to a TV Box, it stays paired and won’t control other Xfinity TV Boxes unless you pair it with another box.

Note: Voice recognition isn’t supported on RNG150 X1 TV Boxes.

What Xfinity TV Boxes can I use with the Voice Remote?
The Voice Remote and XRA Large Button Voice Remote work with all Xfinity X1 TV Box models (except RNG150) and all Flex devices. The Voice Remote must be paired with an eligible TV Box to use voice control.

Note: The XRA Large Button Voice Remote does not work with Xumo Stream Boxes yet.

Will my Voice Remote control my TV, audio receiver, and sound bar?
Yes, for most models. Visit xfinity.com/remotes to check if your remote supports your TV, audio receiver, or sound bar. You’ll also find instructions to set up your Voice Remote to control your TV, audio receiver, and/or sound bar, if supported.

How do I get a Voice Remote?
The Voice Remote is available to new and existing X1, Xumo Stream Box, and Flex customers. To get one:

What if I can’t use voice commands?
If you can’t use voice commands, use the Xfinity Web Remote at remote.xfinity.com. Learn more about the Xfinity Web Remote in the next FAQ.

What is the Xfinity Web Remote and how can I use it?
The Xfinity Web Remote lets X1 and Flex customers control their experience using a web-based remote in any browser on a computer or mobile device. It works with assistive technologies customers already use, such as eye tracking, voice control software, screen readers, or switch devices like sip-and-puff.

Customers with disabilities that affect speech can type commands. Those who can’t use a remote manually can use eye tracking to turn eye movements into mouse actions and blinking into clicks.

Access the Xfinity Web Remote at remote.xfinity.com. To learn more, see Xfinity web remote for X1 and Flex.

Note: The Xfinity Web Remote doesn’t work with Xumo Stream Box at this time.
