Manage language and audio mode in the X1 Guide

Learn how to change your audio language and manage the audio mode using the Xfinity X1 On-Screen Guide. You can choose from HDMI Audio Output (Stereo or Auto Detect or Expert mode) or Digital Audio Output: Optical/SPDIF (Stereo or Dolby Digital 5.1).

Notes:

  • Choose audio language — To change the Secondary Audio Programming (SAP) audio language to your preferred language (where available), see Find programs with SAP on X1.
  • Choose navigation language — To change the menus and guide language, see get your X1 menu in Spanish.

Choose audio mode

  1. Press the Xfinity button on your remote.
  2. Highlight Settings (the gear icon) and press OK.

    The Main Menu is displayed, with the Settings at the lower right.

  3. Navigate to Device Settings and press OK.

HDMI Audio Output (Stereo, Auto Detect or Expert mode)

  1. On this screen, scroll to HDMI Audio Output and press OK.

  2. Choose the option you prefer and press OK.

Digital Audio Output: Optical/SPDIF (Stereo or Dolby Digital 5.1)

  1. Alternatively, scroll to Digital Audio Output (Optical/SPDIF) and press OK.
    Select HDMI Audio Output on your remote.

  2. Choose the option you prefer and press OK.
    Choose from either Stereo or Dolby Digital 5.1.

Choose audio language

To access Audio Options:

  1. From full screen video, press the down arrow on your remote to display the playback controls.
  2. Highlight the Audio Options/SAP button on the playback controls and press OK.

  3. Available audio languages will be shown in the Audio Options panel. A check mark will appear with the audio you’re currently hearing.

    The Audio Options menu appears over the program you're watching. Audio languages available for your program appear in a vertical list.

Note: Not all programs have a secondary-audio soundtrack available for all languages. Channels sometimes place an audio description audio track on the Spanish or Portuguese track.

Restore the default audio language

To go back to the default track:

  1. Press the Xfinity button on your remote.
  2. Highlight Settings (the gear icon) and press OK.

  3. You can get to Audio Language (SAP) Reset from Device Settings > Audio, Language, or Accessibility Settings. Select one of them.

  4. Navigate to Audio Language (SAP) Reset.

  5. Press OK on your remote to clear your last chosen audio language and go back to the default language setting.

  6. The blue checkmark on the SAP button will disappear. The default language will stay until you choose a new audio language in the Audio Options panel.
