Learn how to add and remove devices that can download cloud-based DVR recordings and On Demand programs. We'll show you how to manage download devices using the Apple version of the mobile app. The procedures are essentially the same for the Android mobile app, but the steps or screens may be slightly different.
Note: The Xfinity Stream app is available to all customers with Xfinity TV. Some features may vary depending on your services.
What You'll Need
- Xfinity TV service (X1, non-X1 or Xfinity Instant TV package)
- Cloud-based DVR service (for downloading recordings)
- Access to the Xfinity Stream app
Difficulty
Easy
Adding a Download Device
With the Xfinity Stream app, adding a new download device is as simple as downloading a cloud-based DVR recording or On Demand program. Once you download a program, your device will be added to the list of download devices for your household.

If you reach the maximum number of download devices (five for X1 customers - limited to three for On Demand downloads and two for Xfinity Instant TV customers) for your household, and you try to download a program on a new device, you'll see an error message such as: "Could Not Create Download. Limit Reached :: 12010. This household has already authorized the maximum number of devices for download. To download programs to this device, remove another device from the account."
You can either download the program to an already registered download device or remove one of the existing download devices (see Removing a Download Device section).
Removing a Download Device
Do you have the maximum number of devices set up for downloads, but want to add a different device? You'll need to remove a device before you can add another. Don't worry, after you remove a download device you'll still be able to use the Xfinity Stream app and watch TV, movies and DVR recordings; you just won't be able to download programs. Any programs already downloaded to the removed device will be returned to the cloud-based DVR or On Demand library to be watched or downloaded on a different device.
